James,
I greatly appreciate your comment, keep 'em comin'! The topic of negative/judgemental material has been brought to my attention before, and I would like to publicly respond. I will leave this comment here, as well as copy it into a post for all to see and read.

The first time I was asked about it, someone said to me, "Do I really believe that men are as bad off as I make them seem?" My answer was emphatically "Yes!". I witness unconscionable behavior almost on a daily basis, and this behavior has become the socially accepted norm for male. I also, on occassion, see an example of manliness lived out in our modern world - I typically write about it.

I'd like to draw attention to the majority of my past posts during the months of June/July 09; these posts are positive examples of men living out virtue and encouraing others to do the same. Since Father's Day, 7 of my last 9 posts have had optimistic and positive outlooks on men and their manliness. The few posts that seem to have a negative and/or seemingly judgemental approach are written as real life examples of men who fail to live out the call that has been placed on all of our hearts since the dawn of time. (See the discourse between God and Adam in The Book of Genesis.) These few "negative" examples are in place in order to bring light to the darkness and to hopefully start to reverse a trend that I (I believe we all see it happening in front of us daily) see happening in our culture; this trend is that a stereotypical male lives a certain way. I have referred to this as "cultural manliness" - the idea that a man is judged based on how much money, power, possessions and sex he has. I desire to fight this stereotype, reverse it so that the trend is of virtuous men living out their God-given call and to win souls for Christ.

I would really appreciate any and all comments on this topic!

Man up!

Dave,
I love the amount of energy and thought you put into you page. I see your dedication to helping men to find their full potential as "men of God". I would love to see more positive comments about the great virtues of men who fight the courageous battle every day to be "true men". It's very easy to have a critical eye of those around us and to see how our society is failing at building up strong men. I do think, however, Christ came to give us a message of hope, not judgment. There are so many wonderful things happening in the Church and in our society that cannot be overlooked. I encourage you to recognize God's work in His sons and daughters and to note how He is at work in ALL of us.
Thanks,
James

Dave,

I heard you talk at the Rocky Mountain mens Conference in the springs. Wow, I knew I had to make sure after that your blog/web site is something I will now look at on a daily basis. For anyone else who might read this, Dave knows where it is at. I suggest that if anyone can get a chance to hear him, it is worth the time.
Gob bless you, and your family

Dave,
You recently spoke to teenagers at a day long confirmation retreat at our parish. You did a great job. Thank you! I just happened upon your blog and want to thank you again...this looks wonderful. I also have a blog at www.divorcedcatholicmoms.com. It's not actually just for moms, but for any divorced Catholic.

God bless you in your work!
